The LaGrange Police Department is currently accepting applications for a Lateral Police Officer to fill existing vacant positions and future hiring needs.
 
The LaGrange Police Department operates with sixteen sworn police officers, two civilian administrative staff and a code enforcement officer, providing twenty-four hour police services to the City of LaGrange. In addition to uniform patrol officers, special assignments within the Department include, Criminal Investigations personnel, a School Resource Officer "SRO" and a narcotics detection K-9 Unit. 

Our agency provides professional law enforcement services for the City of LaGrange, located in Oldham County, approximately 20 miles northeast of Louisville, Kentucky, with an approximate population of 8800 residents.

Salary determined by experience level/service years.
Compensation range:  $44,000 to $48,000 + $4000.00 KLEFPF.
​Initial uniform and equipment provided; subsequent uniform allowance. Competitive insurance plans available.

 LATERAL POLICE OFFICER
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have been employed as a full-time sworn police officer in the United States with a minimum of three (3) years full-time experience;
  • ​Must have completed a Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC) approved Basic Training Course, or be eligible for KLEC Peace Officer Professional Standards (POPS) certification;
  • If applicant is not currently a police officer in Kentucky, reciprocity must be granted by KLEC prior to submitting an application for employment.  (KLEC website link - https://klecs.ky.gov/reciprocity);
  • Not have had certification as a peace officer permanently revoked in Kentucky or another state;
  • Be 21 years of age or older;
  • Be a U.S. citizen;
  • Be a graduate of an accredited high school or G.E.D. program;
  • Possess a valid driver's license;
  • If applicable, received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions for serving in any branch of the armed forces of the United States;
  • Not have a felony conviction or any criminal action pending;
  • Not be prohibited by federal or state law from possessing a firearm;
  • Must submit to an oral interview;
  • Take a psychological evaluation;
  • Must submit to a thorough background investigation;
  • Pass a pre-employment medical examination and drug screen;
  • Pass a pre-employment polygraph examination.​

  • If applicable, received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions for serving in any branch of the armed forces of the United States.
  • Not have a felony conviction or any criminal action pending.
  • Not have had certification as a peace officer permanently revoked in Kentucky or another state.
  • Not be prohibited by federal or state law from possessing a firearm.
  • Applicants must pass a written general aptitude test.
  • Applicants must pass a physical agility test.
  • Must submit to an oral interview.
  • Must submit to a thorough background investigation.
  • Pass a pre-employment medical examination.
  • Take a psychological evaluation.
  • Pass a drug screen.
  • Work a varied work schedule.
  • Recruit Applicants must be able to successfully complete twenty (20) week training with the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice.
