______________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2009 LAGRANGE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S ANNUAL FISHING DERBY ![]()
The LaGrange Police Department hosted its fourth annual Kid’s Fishing Derby on September 26th at Eagle Creek Golf Course. Several people have asked me what we were hoping to accomplish by hosting such an event. Our goal throughout the entire planning of the derby was to provide a community event which primarily focused on allowing children to meet and spend time with police officers in an enjoyable atmosphere. Our responsibility to the public is not only to enforce laws and educate citizens about the law, but more importantly, to be a part of the community and encourage positive interactions with police officers. The secondary goal was to provide a family-friendly environment in which parents could spend time with their children in a safe and fun setting.
Our fishing derby brought together 59 children in and around our community which ranged from 2 years old up to age 16. The children who participated were divided into age groups for prizes which consisted of “Big Fish” and “Most Fish Caught”. We want to congratulate the following children for winning trophies in each of our divisions. Olivia Reppen won the “Big Fish” competition in the 2 year old to 6 year old age group with a 4 oz. bass. Jalen Moore won the 7 year old to 11 year old division with a 5 oz. bass, and Nicholas Reppen won the 12 year old to 16 year old age division in a tie breaker with his brother Mason, both of which caught a 9 oz. bass. In the “Most Fish Caught” competition, Chayton Aldridge won the 2 year old to 6 year old division with 33 total fish caught. Jalen Moore brought home a second trophy winning his age group 7 year old to 11 year old with 36 fish caught. In the 12 year old to 16 year old division, Ethan Campbell won with 28 fish caught. In total, 439 fish were caught and released by all those participating. Each participant received a new fishing pole, and a t-shirt for taking part in the event. We want to thank all 59 children and their parents for braving the muddy and gloomy conditions and making this event not only a success, but something that is becoming a tradition for several families in the area.
With all that being said it is important to recognize all of the individuals and businesses whom without their financial sponsorships or donated time this event would have never succeeded: Eagle Creek Golf Course, The Oldham Era, The Bank Oldham County, Fastline, Dynegy, East & Westbrook Construction, Pearce Ready Mix Concrete, Champion Chevrolet, McDonald’s, Allstate Ready Mix, Bedford Loan & Deposit Bank, Irish Rover Too, Farmers Bank of Milton, LaGrange Service Center, National City now a part of PNC, Oldham County Funeral Home, Campbellsburg Supermarket, Dairy Queen, Hometown Pizza, Taco Bell, Cash Express, Custom Signs and Graphics, and Screens & Ink Screen Printing. A special thanks goes to those who volunteered time and effort into the project: Kentucky Fish and Wildlife and Pat and Sharon Vincent.
I want to thank everyone who took part in the LaGrange Police Department’s Kid’s Fishing Derby. We work as a community to create an event that enriches the lives of all those who participate. We hope to see everyone again next year.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________ LaGrange Police Department's 2008 Kids' Fishing Derby The LaGrange Police Department hosted our third annual Kid’s Fishing Derby on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Eagle Creek Golf Course. Several people have asked me what we were hoping to accomplish by hosting our fishing derby. Our fishing derby brought together 51 children in and around our community which ranged from 2 years old up to age 15. The fishing started fast and furious and the number of fish caught over the entire day increased dramatically from the 150 fish caught last year to 255 caught this year. This year we increased the number of awards presented by breaking down the trophies by age group. A big congratulations goes out to the following children: “The Biggest Fish” ages 2-6 was presented to Presley Lummus (3 oz. Bluegill), “Biggest Fish” ages 7 -11 was presented to Adam VanZant (9 oz. Bass), “Biggest Fish” ages 12-16 was awarded to Kelsey Hoskins (2 lb Catfish). We also awarded the participants who caught the most fish as well: “Most Fish Caught” ages 2-6 was awarded to John Campbell who caught twenty total fish. “Most Fish Caught” ages 7-11 was awarded to Hannah Geary who caught 25 total fish, and “Most Fish Caught” ages 12-16 was Jessica Foster who caught 26 fish. The LaGrange Police Department applauds the award winners this year, but we want to thank all of the children who attended the derby and hope they had a great day. Every child who participated in the fishing derby was awarded a brand new fishing pole to stay in practice for next year. They were also given a t-shirt and other goodies. All of these items were purchased with generous donations from our sponsors. In addition, LaGrange Police Department was also able to provide hot dogs, chips, cookies and drinks. With all that being said, it is important to recognize all of the individuals and businesses whom without their financial sponsorships or donated time this event would have never succeeded: Eagle Creek Golf Course, The Oldham Era, KY Fish & Wildlife, Bedford Bank, The Bank Oldham County, East & Westbrook Construction, Fastline, Champion Chevrolet, McDonald’s, Allstate Ready Mix, Kinser & Kinser, DYNEGY, National City Bank, Irish Rover Too, LaGrange Service Center, Dairy Queen, Hometown Pizza, Custom Graphics, Taco Bell, Pearce Ready Mix, FOP Lodge #62, Farmers Bank of Milton, Oldham County Funeral Home, Campbellsburg Supermarket, Buckner Elementary PTA, Custom Graphics. A special thanks also goes out to Pat and Sharon Vincent who assisted in ordering supplies. I want to thank everyone who took part in the LaGrange Police Department’s Kid’s Fishing Derby. We worked as a community to create an event that enriches the lives of all those who participate. We hope to see everyone again next year. Chief Kevin Collett LaGrange Police Department
